With cuts to state funding continuing to impact the Department of Sociology and the University, access and achievement will depend more than ever on the generous support of our alumni and friends.
Giving back can be thought of in terms of citizenship. We must volunteer to sustain the institutions that enhance our quality of life. It can be thought of in terms of legacy. The students of tomorrow deserve the same opportunities and access to a top public university as those of today. And it can be thought of in terms of responsibility. By giving back and supporting the Department of Sociology, you ensure that the department continues to deliver a world class college education to the people of California.
If sociology teaches anything, it is that no person is an island; we all depend on each other. Please consider making a gift to the Sociology Department.
Chair's Discretionary Fund: Gifts to this fund will allow the department to additional resources as needed to the fellowships and academic programs helping both graduates and undergraduates to achieve their goals.
Annual gifts to the Sociology Chair’s Discretionary Fund, in addition to providing vital funds to our department, also qualify the donor for membership into the Chancellor's Society. For more information about the courtesies associated with these levels of support, please see the Donor Recognition section below.
Our alumni and friends who already enjoy Chancellor's Associates member benefits may also direct their annual gifts to our department by selecting it via the UCLA Annual Fund appeals. By designating Sociology as the recipient of their annual gifts on the Annual Fund’s forms, Chancellor's Associates members will retain the courtesies associated with their level of support. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the faculty, staff, and students in the department as well as by the University. Donors at all levels should feel proud of supporting higher education and all donations help us with our mission. Cash donations or gifts of securities are tax deductible and will have an immediate impact. Pledges for future gifts are also welcomed. Named endowments or named faculty chairs are especially welcomed and can help secure our future. In recognition of the importance of annual gifts to the Sociology Chair’s Discretionary Fund, you will be a part of the UCLA leadership giving program, the Chancellor’s Society. As a leadership donor at UCLA, you will receive special courtesies based on your leadership level annual gift:
